🪐 The "Martian" landscape
The Río Tinto owes its name to its deep red waters, a result of the minerals and microbial activity. Its landscape is so similar to Mars that NASA and astrobiology centres study it as an analogue of the red planet. Walking through the mining basin is like landing on another world.
🚂 The mining train
The Mining Tourist Railway runs along part of the old track once used to transport the ore, in restored historic carriages, hugging the red river. It's the star activity of the Mining Park. It's best to check timetables and book, especially in high season and at weekends.
